(ANIMAL WELFARE) Animal shelters are starting to get more innovative in their approach to improve the conditions their cats reside in. To minimize the stress a shelter environment can have on animals, some shelters have decided to implement new practices, like trading in the small steel cages for spacious, cat friendly habitats and installing TVs for cat entertainment. Living in a stressful shelter can produce many health issues for cats, so we congratulate shelters on making an effort to better the lives of these animals. (PUPPY MILLS) CALIFORNIA — A proposal to ban the sale of puppies in pet stores passed at a Huntington Beach City Council Meeting on March 19. The proposal put forth by Council Member Joe Carchio emphasized the need to end the sale of puppies since most originate from inhumane “puppy mills.” Along with Laguna Beach, Dana Point, and Irvine, Huntington Beach officials have approved the new ban. — Global Animal

(TOUCHING TALE) When Amy Jung and her son rescued Pudding, a tabby cat from the shelter, she had no idea that Pudding would soon be rescuing her. Later that night, Jung slipped into a diabetic seizure in her sleep and Pudding nudged her awake until she could call out to her son. When he didn’t hear her calls, Pudding went into his room and pounced on him until he awoke and called for medical assistance. If this isn’t an argument for pet rescue we don’t know what is!
