Romney Still In Dog House 30 Years Later

In 1983 the Romney family: Mitt, wife Anne, and their five sons, set off on a 12-hour road trip from Boston to Ontario. Also along for the journey was the family dog, Seamus, an Irish Setter. With no room in the car for Seamus, Mitt tied the dog and his kennel to the top of the family van. From there is where the story gets a bit messy.

No-Kill Shelters More Progressive Than Productive

(SHELTER ANIMALS) Are no-kill shelters really the solution to the abandoned pet population pandemic? Some believe not. And while we at Global Animal don’t believe in controlling the pet population through euthanization, the fact that no-kill shelters choose to only accept animals that are potential prospects for adoption isn’t really fixing the problem. Rather than ‘not euthanizing’ homeless animals, no-kill shelters opt to leave them to the streets where they’re susceptible to being hit by cars, attacked by other animals, or starvation. It seems the only solution with results to back it up is spaying and neutering. In the past four decades, due to spaying and neutering, the country’s animal euthanization numbers have dropped from 20 million a year to less than four million in 2011. So I ask you again, global animals: are No-Kill Shelters really the solution? Or just another tactic for irresponsible pet owners to feel progressive and better about themselves? — Global Animal

Cat Litter In The Courthouse

(CATS) NEW YORK — What was on the docket yesterday in District Judge Jed Rakoff’s Manhattan courtroom? Not a hot political issue, not a celebrity in need of rehabilitation, but rather the “cat litter case.” Fresh Step, a Clorox brand cat litter, is being sued by Church & Dwight Co., whose Arm & Hammer brand of cat litter has claimed “irreparable harm” from Clorox’s current Fresh Step ad-campaign. Judge Rakoff issued a preliminary injunction to halt the airing of the ad while hearing both sides. Read on for more from this trial ‘littered’ in controversy. — Global Animal
