20,000 Bees Safely Evacuated From Tree

(ANIMAL RESCUE) Last week in England, a tree surgeon named John Joinson was sent to the village of Childer Thornton to remove a tree that was in danger of falling into the road. When Joinson arrived at the tree, he discovered that a large colony of bees was living in it. Rather than resorting to the easier maneuver of spraying and killing them, Joinson phoned a beekeeper for help and managed to drive 20,000 bees out of the hive and into a box before cutting down the tree. Dog’s Tear-Jerking Tale Transforms Autistic Boy (GALLERY)

(DOG PICTURES) Relationships between pets and companions are some of the strongest ones we can have. In the case of Xena, a Staffordshire terrier/pit bull mix, and Jonny Hickey, the bond between pet and human also serves as an effective therapy. Jonny, an 8-year-old boy diagnosed with autism, would seldom speak, and often isolated himself from others, until Xena came into his life. Since their new found friendship Jonny has completely changed his demeanor, and has become exponentially expressive. His mother told the Today Show, “He is the happiest child that I’ve ever seen him be in eight years.” Xena also benefits from this relationship. Abandoned at a young age, Xena’s journey has lead her to a loving family and a new best friend. Their tale shows the power of human-animal relationships. Here’s a glimpse of their story. — Global Animal

How One Rescue Dog Survived Against All Odds (VIDEO)

(GLOBAL ANIMAL)—Arwen, a 10-year-old pit bull mix, was one of 89 dogs rescued from a hoarder in the Mojave Desert. Along with the others she was kept in poor outdoor conditions. During the cold winter season the dogs had no shelter, and barely any food or water. Karma Rescue, who also got other animal organizations involved, stepped in and began their tough work of relocating the dogs to safe homes. But everyone seemed to be especially touched by Arwen, who was so unsocialized and had so little interaction with humans that she had no idea how to respond to them. Arwen had almost no teeth because she chewed on the hoarder’s metal fence, and she had a very troubling eye condition brought on by the constant raw exposure to the rough weather. Alex, a volunteer, decided to foster Arwen until her health improved, but very quickly fell head over heels in love with the sweet dog, and decided to permanently adopt her. Read on to find out about Arwen’s ordeal and how she’s doing now.—Global Animal
