Modern Family: Bull Dog Adopts Piglets (GALLERY)

(ANIMAL FAMILIES) GERMANY — A French bulldog named Baby has taken six wild baby boar piglets under her care at an animal sanctuary outside of Berlin. Baby has mothered other species before, an example that motherly instincts can transcend all boundaries. Animals adopting out of their species is not as rare as you might think, but so far scientists have no explanation for this heartwarming phenomenon. It certainly proves that animals, in addition to humans, are capable of altruism. Read on to learn about this motherly bull dog. — Global Animal

A Salute To A Service Dog

(TOUCHING TALE) Getting a service dog is both difficult and time consuming, and even more so for young children. Most agencies will not give service dogs to children because they can’t be the dogs primary caregiver. When you add a mental disability to the application, getting approved is virtually impossible. Knowing the difficulties, the Winokurs decided to apply to 4 Paws for Ability, an organization that places service dogs with people who would be unapproved elsewhere. — Global Animal

(TOUCHING TALE) Donny Eslinger may have rescued his puppy from the war zone in Afghanistan, but Smoke was really the one doing the rescuing. In addition to being a good friend, he was a welcome presence for the soldiers, boosting morale and giving much needed hugs and kisses. Pets have often proven to give therapeutic help to soldiers overseas, and those recovering from PTSD at home.
