Rehab For Orphaned Rhinos

(RHINOCEROS) SOUTH AFRICA — In response to the dramatic increase in poaching, rhino rehabilitation expert Karen Trendler developed The Orphaned Rhino Response Project to rehabilitate rhino calves whose mothers were killed by poachers. A team of trained rescuers rush to the scene after  reported cases of poaching to provide medical care for any calves left behind. After initial treatment the rhinos are transported to the rehab facility and prepared for release into the wild. Four Tigers Butchered To Be Decorations (TAKE ACTION)

(EXOTIC ANIMAL SMUGGLING) THAILAND — Four tigers were slaughtered recently for their skins, skulls, and bones for alleged interior decorating projects, and the parts were confiscated en route to China by Thai postal customs in Bangkok. These murders were committed by an unknown gang trafficking group, and they still remain unpunished. The inhumane practice of poaching wild tigers is aiding to their vastly decreasing numbers, and currently worldwide only 3,200 exist in their natural habitat. Action must be taken to preserve these majestic creatures in the wild and bring the killers to justice. PA Police Propose To Shoot Strays (TAKE ACTION)

(ANIMAL NEWS) PENNSYLVANIA— In the midst of financial woe, Pennsylvania’s capital city Harrisburg is considering allowing police officers to shoot stray dogs. As a cost-cutting measure, city officials reduced their yearly financial contribution to the local Humane Society by $50,000. Instead of directing strays toward shelters, the city of Harrisburg contemplates an inhumane alternative as a way to get strays off the streets. — Global Animal

92 Animals Rescued In Branson, MO

(ANIMAL RESCUE) BRANSON, MO — Today in Branson, Missouri 92 animals were rescued from a home where they were forced to live in sub-standard, filthy living conditions. Of the 92 animals, there were 40 dogs as well as cats, birds and ferrets. The woman who lives in the home claims she was running a personal animal rescue service. Missouri Department of Agriculture rescued the 92 animals and immediately transferred custody of them over to the Humane Society of Missouri. Willie Nelson Fights Against Canine Profiling

(ANIMAL RIGHTS) Singer-songwriter Willie Nelson has been wearing his activist hat as of late. Last week, Nelson spoke out in favor of Ohio House Bill 14, which would remove a law that declares certain breeds vicious, i.e., canine profiling. Nelson, a long time dog lover and animal rights activist, published a letter asking Ohio residents in support of the bill to contact their state senators, as it already passed in the House of Representatives.
