Sonia attends California State University of Los Angeles, where she is currently pursuing a degree in English. From a young age Sonia has realized that animals are not our property, but living beings whom we share this Earth with. Her life dream would be to open an animal sanctuary or a doggie day care with a large outdoor play area, which many of the L.A. daycares are desperately lacking.

Sea Shepherd’s Captain Paul Watson Arrested

(ANIMAL NEWS) Paul Watson, the famous founder and captain of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, was arrested in Frankfurt, Germany, over the weekend. The charges against him are related to an incident in Costa Rica from 2002, when Sea Shepherd protested shark finning. The outstanding warrant for his arrest was also for attempted murder, which Sea Shepherd is calling a “fallacy.” Sea Shepherd, the subject of the Animal Planet reality show Whale Wars, is hoping that the charges against him will be dropped. —Global Animal

The No-Kill LA operation is led by Best Friends Animal Society and consists of welfare organizations and city shelters who are trying to make all Los Angeles animal shelters no-kill. Horrific Animal Abuse At Wyoming Premium Farms

(FACTORY FARMING) The Humane Society Of The United States (HSUS) has uncovered yet another pig farm where horrendous abuses are taking place. Last February the HSUS exposed animal abuse at the Seaboard Foods and Prestage Farms. Now it’s Wyoming Premium Farms, a supplier to Tyson Foods, that’s under fire for their stomach-churning treatment of pigs. The undercover investigators had to watch the farm workers kick and punch mother pigs, kick and throw baby piglets, feed piglet testicles to their mothers for “fun,” deprive pigs of water and medical treatment among other horrifying actions. Pamela Anderson Gives Ukraine Red Card

(ANIMAL NEWS) Pamela Anderson has written a letter to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) president Michel Platini asking him to address Ukraine’s cruel preparation methods for Euro 2012. To get ready for the upcoming soccer tournament, Ukraine, the co-host of the event, is exterminating homeless animals. An estimated 7, 000 dogs a month have been hanged, shot, or poisoned. Even football players are asking that Ukraine find other methods to deal with the stray population. Notorious Town Of Taiji Plans ‘Marine Park’

(DOLPHIN NEWS) The Japanese town of Taiji, most famous for its dolphin slaughtering industry as seen in The Cove, is in the midst of another controversy involving marine life. The people of Taiji are planning to open ‘a marine safari park,’ in the same cove where the killing takes place. The town that kills 23,000 dolphins and porpoises with spears and knives every year will now also hold them in captivity to attract tourists.
