Puppy Bowl Animals Score New Homes

After more than 12.4 million people tuned in for the annual cute fest, the adorable 63 puppies and 21 kittens that participated were all adopted! Another BarkWorks Successfully Shut Down

(PET STORES) Thanks to animal activists far and wide, one of BarkWorks’ biggest facilities was recently shut down at the Westside Pavillion in Los Angeles, CA. The dishonorable pet store chain has long been targeted by animal activists for selling sick dogs from puppy mills, which are known for their atrocious conditions. Now, as a result of the continued efforts of organizations like Best Friends Animal Society and Animal Protection and Rescue League (APRL) in Orange County, BarkWorks in Mission Viejo, CA has also closed its doors. The store is the third BarkWorks to close since 2010. Vanity Fair Magazine Not So Fair After All

(ANIMAL WELFARE) Animal Defenders International (ADI) recently helped cancel elephant rides for the Upland Lemon Festival after the city’s council witnessed ADI’s undercover video footage of the savage training techniques used by the notorious elephant rental company, Have Trunk Will Travel (HTWT). Now Vanity Fair magazine has used one of  HTWT’s abused elephants, Tai—the same elephant used in the 2011 film, Water for Elephants—for a photo shoot featuring Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks, and Bradley Cooper among others. Gary Johnson, the trainer who is seen on the undercover video beating Tai, was also present at the photo shoot. Read on to find out more details and let Vanity Fair know that you don’t support elephant abuse. — Global Animal

Foul Play Suspected In Elephant Deaths

(ANIMAL WELFARE) Last week, Malaysian authorities released information regarding 10 Borneo pygymy elephants who were found dead in the Gunung Rara Forest Reserve. Now, three more dead elephants have been discovered in Sabah, Malaysia, raising the total death count to 13. Police are looking into the possibility that the elephants were poisoned. Dolphin Asks Divers For Help (VIDEO)

(OCEANS) A bottlenose dolphin recently found himself stuck with a hook and a fishing line in his pectoral fin. Fortunately, the clever mammal knew how to ask for help. The dolphin continued swimming around a group of divers who were on a night swim off Kona on January 11, until they took notice of his condition and helped him. The divers were watching manta rays feeding on plankton when the dolphin started circling around them.
