Elisabeth graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in English/LIterature and Psychology. She is currently pursuing her masters at UCLA in Film and Television writing. During her time in Miami Elisabeth was on the swim team and marine mammal stranding team, and got to help with many water rescue and stranding situations. She currently resides in Santa Monica with her son, six month old english bulldog, Ernie. In her spare time she enjoys reading, going to the beach, running, and yoga.

Heroic Dog Gives Life To Save Guardian

(HEROIC PETS) A dog lost his life last Thursday when he pulled his guardian out of the way of an oncoming train. According to Russian news site Ria Novosti, the 48-year old man sought to end his life by drinking a bottle of vodka and falling asleep on train tracks in the city of Karaganda. Aida Muldashevan, an investigator with the local transport police department, said,  ”Upon seeing the train, the dog started pulling its owner away. When train drivers saw the dog on the rail tracks, they used the emergency brake.” But it was too late. — Global Animal

City Coexists With Bears

(WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS) CALIFORNIA — A 300-lb black bear was spotted strolling through residential neighborhoods heading towards the freeway in Montrose, CA. Highway patrol stopped traffic and a deputy helicopter monitored the scene while waiting for Fish and Game officials to arrive. The bear was successfully tranquilized  and officials delivered him to a location deep in the Los Angeles National Forest.  Although bear sightings are common this time of year, Montrose has a unique mindset towards encounters with their furry four-legged neighbors. Mysterious Mass Animal Deaths Plague Lake Erie

(ANIMAL NEWS) CANADA — Residents along Lake Erie were woken up by a smell that was similar to a septic tank backing up yesterday, when tens of thousands of dead fish and sea gulls washed ashore. The scene is reminiscent of earlier this month when thousands of dead fish washed up along the Texas shore, and when birds seemed to fall dead from the sky in Arkansas in 2011. Researchers have ruled out many reasons for the deaths and are still looking to make sense of this strange phenomenon. Creators Of “The Cove” Launch New Campaign

(DOCUMENTARIES) The brilliant minds behind the The Cove are working on their second documentary entitled The Singing Planet. The film will focus on humanity’s role in causing mass extinction and the drastic measures necessary for initiating cultural change. Filmmaker Louie Psihoyos told the Wall Street Journal, “If The Cove was Ocean’s Eleven, the new film’s going to be Ocean’s Twelve. A little bit bigger, better, and higher quality in its production values.” A new kickstarter campaign called “The Heist,” has launched to help The Ocean Preservation Society fund a final and top-secret part of the film. Battered Sea Turtle Rushed To Hospital

(NATURAL DISASTERS) FLORIDA — American Airlines provided a free flight to a 123-pound endangered female hawksbill sea turtle blown ashore by Tropical Storm Isaac. Dog Gets Second Chance On New Legs (VIDEO)

(ANIMAL RESCUE) MEXICO — A dog who had his front paws cut off by an organized drug cartel is now able to walk and play again thanks to his new prosthetic legs. Pay de Limon, or Lemon Pie, was found bleeding in a dumpster after his run in with the heartless criminals. New Dam Threatens Thailand’s Tigers

(TIGERS) THAILAND — A proposed dam in Thailand would flood almost eight miles of a national park where conservationists have been working to increase the wild tiger population. With fewer than 3,200 tigers remaining in the wild and only 300 in Thailand, it would be a shame to see them suffer more casualties at the hands of humans.
