Could Snow Leopards Become Domestic Cats?

(ENDANGERED SPECIES) PAKISTAN — In an effort to conserve Snow Leopards, an expert has proposed that we begin labeling the big cats as a domestic animal. Snow Leopards are an endangered species and have witnessed a recent decline in population due to hunting and retaliation by farmers. Labeling these cats as domestic could mean that farmers would be compensated for any of their livestock killed by the Snow Leopards. The expert, Shafqat Hussain, claims that people can easily co-exist with these leopards as they have never been known to attack people, and therefore there is no reason to consciously separate the two. Read on to see why some do not agree with the controversial proposal, and give us your feedback. — Global Animal

India’s Leopards Killed By The Week

(POACHING) INDIA — A report conducted by the World Wide Fund for Nature last month revealed that at least four leopards are killed every week in India, skinned for their fur or even mauled for their bones. Already, humans have recently been posing as a major threat to these endangered animals through exhausting the abundance of forests’ resources. While these leopards’ habitats have been wrecked, the population of their prey – unable to survive without the goods of the forest – have simultaneously decreased. Leopards are suffering in more ways than one at the hands of humans. — Global Animal

No Justice For Dog Murderer

(ANIMAL CRUELTY) CALIFORNIA — A 42-year-old man convicted of beating his neighbor’s German Shepherd to death last April has been sentenced to a year in jail and denied the right to own or care for any animal for the next 10 years. However, the man could have faced more than four years in prison. While this punishment might seem sufficient to some, others may be wondering if this man should ever be allowed to live, never mind own a pet again. — Global Animal
