Whales Coping With Human Noise

(WHALES/DOLPHINS) — It has been known for quite some time that noises humans cause under the sea, such as engines, sonars, and weapons testing, can cause temporary or even permeant hearing loss to sea life that relies heavily on their hearing to live. Scientists recently discovered that whales and dolphins actually have the ability to decrease their hearing sensitivity in order to protect them from loud noises. This leaves hope that humans will be able to use a warning noise underwater that will signal these highly intelligent animals to “plug their ears” before harmful noise.
