(ANIMAL WELFARE) A new PETA ad compares fish suffering with human suffering by linking their silent screams to human screams. It should be no surprise that fish are intelligent and capable of feeling pain like most animals. Similarly, along with much of the animal kingdom, they are unable to voice their suffering. Watch the sad but enlightening video, and read on for how PETA is aiming to create compassion for these underwater animals.—Global Animal

PETA is at it again and this time they’re targeting celebrity chefs, their fans and supporting fish all at once. In their “groundbreaking new fish empathy public service announcement”, titled “Silent Scream,” the animal rights group illustrates the silent screams and pain fish feel when being killed and cooked.
PETA is specifically targeting FOX and Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen” and wants to air the ad on the network.
The group wrote a letter to the network and here’s part of it, “Contestants on “Hell’s Kitchen” choose to subject themselves to bullying in the kitchen, but the animals who are cut up and cooked on the show don’t have any choice – and they lose their lives, not just their pride. Airing “Silent Scream” during the show would remind viewers that might doesn’t make right and that it’s never acceptable to intimidate, exploit, or hurt others–regardless of which species they happen to be a member of.”
Lisa Lange, the senior vice president of PETA said in a press release sent to The Huffington Post, “It may be easier to identify with our favorite “Hell’s Kitchen” contestants than with the fish they fillet and sauté, but fish feel pain and fear, and they suffer enormously when they are impaled, crushed, suffocated, or cut open and gutted, all while they’re fully conscious. PETA’s “Silent Scream” video tells viewers that it’s never right to hurt others simply because they are weaker than we are and can’t speak up for themselves – regardless of what species they happen to be.”
They are not only reaching out to FOX and Ramsay, but to other famous celebrity chefs by having PETA members tweet the video to Emeril Lagasse, Giada De Laurentiis, Rocco DiSpirito, Paula Deen and Mario Batali.
Do you think these celebrity chefs will take into account the video when it comes to whipping up fish dishes?
