It was an intimate wedding but Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan went big on the details.

The Facebook founder’s new 27-year-old wife was walked down the aisle by Beast, the couple’s Hungarian sheepdog, when the pair were married in Palo Alto, California last Saturday.

According to an anonymous friend that talked to People magazine, the couple of nine years wrote their own vows and ‘couldn’t stop grinning’ throughout the ‘low-key’ ceremony.

Beast, the dog, even has its own Facebook page – naturally.

It was just one of the many details that turned the couple’s surprise ceremony, which was held in the backyard of his $7million home, into a success.

On the morning of the event, the billionaire told his new wife’s grandmother about their secret intended nuptials by speaking to her in Chinese.

Mrs Zuckerberg, who is of Chinese-American descent, had inspired her new husband, 28, to learn Chinese some time ago.

The couple’s less than 100 guests snacked on Mexican and Japanese food from the couple’s favourite local restaurants; Palo Alto Sol and Fuki Sushi.

The Mexican meals were valued at a modest $7.50 each.

Dessert was a selection of mice-shaped chocolate from Burdick Chocolate priced at just over $3 each.

It was a sweet the couple had eaten on their first date.

The couple had spent more than seven months planning the wedding but had not even revealed they were engaged.

Guests had turned up to the event thinking they were there to celebrate Mrs Zuckerberg’s graduation from her degree in paediatrics.

But instead they were greeted by the billionaire – who famously always wears jeans and hoodies – in a navy suit and tie, and his bride in a Claire Pettibone ivory lace wedding dress that cost $4,700.

The dress had been purchased last October by the bride who used a false name in order to keep the event a secret.

And, after she bought the gown last October, she returned in April to buy accessories.

Cate Malone, owner of the Little White Dress Bridal Shop, told local broadcaster 7NEWS: ‘She was a very nice bride/customer. We had no idea she was marrying one of the wealthiest men in the world.

‘Our seamstress started the alterations, but because of the bride’s schedule the dress had to be shipped to California where alterations were finished.’

Mr Zuckerberg invited Green Day lead signer Billie Joe Armstrong to entertain his wedding guests and celebrate the ceremony.

A video TMZ filmed outside Mr Zuckerberg’s home reveals that he played ‘Last Night on Earth.’

Mr Armstrong told guests he wrote the song for his own wife.

In addition to the live performance by Mr Armstrong, guests partied to Flo Rida, Bon Jovi and Janet Jackson.

However, the Facebook family favorite appeared to be Michael Jackson. Neighbors reported hearing the King of Pop more than any other artist.
