(VIDEO) Japan: Loyal Tsunami Dog Won’t Abandon Injured Friend

(VIDEO) You don’t have to speak Japanese to understand the sympathetic tones of the two reporters observing these dogs  – and the loyal dog who led them to an injured friend, then refused to leave his friend’s side. There is so much we don’t understand about the emotional lives of animals. But we know they can suffer tremendously, and we know they care for each other.

We wish all the people and animals of Japan heartfelt concern during this incomprehensibly difficult time. We know that the people of Japan will respond like these two friends, sticking together in this time of need.  Ganbatte kudasai! (“Don’t give up!”) – Global Animal

As of March 21, 2011- The dogs have NOT been RESCUED.

UPDATE: Kenn Sakurai has NOT RESCUED these TWO DOGS. Apparently, nobody has and they have NOT BEEN SEEN OR HEARD FROM SINCE THE INITIAL FIRST VIDEO of them. A man named Kenn Sakurai has claimed credit for their rescue and the MSM took his Facebook page posting and ran with it. Many people who initially cared about the well-being of the dogs found relief in his posting and have since become newly appointed, loyal, Kool-Aid drinking disciples despite the fact that he has no proof and refuses to give any information on the dogs current situation.

it’s such ruthless greedy pathetic world to not help these dogs. i understand there are people that need help too and this is not underestimating that. but these dogs could have been saved. they were found and should have been helped. HEARTLESS people.

  6. Japan "Buddy" Dogs left to die March 19, 2011 at 5:26 am #

The dogs have NOT been RESCUED.

They were left there without aid and their FATE is UNKNOWN. The media has taken the word of a possible scammer named Kenn Sakurai who claims to have rescued them but refuses to provide any proof, photos or information on their current condition. However, he is begging for donations on his Facebook page. Many people have already sent this man money that could have been sent to legitimate rescue charities. The news media or a reporter needs to investigate this and provide a truthful update.

Also, it was reported that the Fuji News team that stumbled upon the dogs did not have food or water with them and had to leave them as they had no way to transport them although they did supposedly call a rescue group to advise them. The rescue group, JEARS, has claimed they tried to find the dogs but could not. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE THE ORIGINAL FIRST VIDEO.

        Hello Ochibi3,

Today’s NPR article is citing GlobalAnimal.org’s story and updates dating back to March 15, 2011. Unfortunately, the rescue and health status of both of these dogs remains unconfirmed. Global Animal spoke at length to Kenn Sakurai today (March 19, 2011) and we have requested photos to verify that the dogs are indeed rescued and alive.

It is heartening to see the outpouring of compassion for these two dear dogs. Let us all hope for good news soon.

Yes brave and loyal Cyndi Lauper staying to do 5-6 concerts for people and country
that has been so good to her and she love so much. She is also leading the way
in asking for donations and prayers.

From Japan. Maybe, it’s difficult task to treat victim dogs because of low electric supply and shortage of drugs. Support supplies are being delayed by land traffic because of temporally shortage of gasoline. Airport and harbor facilities are recovered today by efforts of the American armed forces. More than 10 thousands are dead and missing so it’s considered that it will be difficult to meet the dogs and owner again…

Japanese TV focus on the urgent managements of nuclear electric power plants. Ibarki is near the plants so it will be more difficult to bring support supplies cause of anxious of radiation.

But Cyndi Lauper held concert today in Tokyo and giving strong song to us.
Thank you for your praying or donation for Japan :)

I have been inundated with folks from Facebook wanting updates on the dogs. I have given them the story and have asked for $$ to help with your efforts. So much to do, so little time. I’m sure they will all give what they can when they can give. We all wish you much success and much luck in your efforts. PLEASE BE SAFE!

    Ania,

According to a facebook entry, a resident of Japan, Kenn Sakurai, is reporting that both dogs were found alive in Mito, Ibaraki. And thanks to the efforts of Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support, the two dogs are currently in the care of a local shelter. We will share more information as it develops.

    • Peggy Toyooka March 22, 2011 at 8:47 pm #

It made me so mad when I heard they’re talking about the dogs and didn’t do anything to help them. That 2 men are crazy heartless.
